How much time you spend is really up to you - training is flexible and can fit around your life. Reserve service is voluntary, you may leave at any time. To maintain the required training level 27 days per year is seen as the minimum commitment required, this includes a 2-week camp or course. Many members of 4 MERCIAN do more, some due to work of family commitments do less some years. 4 MERCIAN will work to support you if you find it difficult to achieve the 27 days per year.
The great thing is that you can fit most of your training around your day job. You do it in the evenings and at weekends. There's also a two-week training camp each year. Apart from the camp, it's up to you and your unit to decide how much training you do.
If mobilised your employment is legally protected and your employer can gain financial assistance to cover your job while you are away.
The Army Reserve has a zero tolerance of the use of none prescribed drugs.
All members of the Army Reserve are subject to compulsory random drug testing.
