4 MERCIAN's mission is to train and prepare Reserve soldiers for front line Infantry operations, where they serve alongside and are integrated within 1 MERCIAN; our Regular paired battalion.
Reserve service in 4 MERCIAN allows individuals to have a civilian job and commit to being a soldier part time. Training takes place over periodic weekends, training nights during the week, and for a 2-week period each year. Attendance at any specific training event is voluntary to take account of an individual's civilian commitments. Reserve soldiers are paid for the training they undertake and can earn a financial bonus at the end of each year.
The training is varied, based upon the sort of skills all people need and includes:
Plus opportunity for overseas travel.
We work and fight as a proud, close-knit family, and through it deliver success on operations around the world. Mercian soldiers are renowned for their professionalism and courage when deployed, and their reputation makes us stand out as one of the most effective and fierce Infantry units in the British Army.
4 MERCIAN is recruiting now for part-time roles and offers a unique range of Reservist roles as an Infantry Soldier, Combat Medic, HR Specialist, Chef, or Musician. We offer opportunities for travel, challenge, and adventure for soldiers and officers.
The British Infantry is based on a tried and tested regimental system, which has repeatedly proved successful in war and on operations over the years. The spirit of the regimental system is maintained in the names, titles and traditions of British infantry regiments handed down through history with a tradition of courage in battle. The Army Reserve, formally known as the Territorial Army, has been in place since 1907 but can trace its routes back a further 100 years.
The Army Reserve has two roles; firstly it provides highly trained soldiers who can work alongside the Regular Army on missions in the UK and overseas. Secondly, it gives people with specialist skills, like medics a range of exciting opportunities to use those skills in new ways. You could also gain driving qualifications paid for by the Army.
Not only will you be part of a regimental system rich in heritage, but also one that can benefit you. 4 MERCIAN as the Reserve Battalion of the Regiment offers an exceptional opportunity to be part of The Mercian Regiment as a Reservist, working alongside your Regular colleagues.
A career as a part-time Reservist officer or soldier offers you the challenge and adventure that you simply cannot find in any other job. As well as improving your employability, you will be able to play a variety of sports and take part in adventurous training activities. Plus have the opportunity to travel all over the world. When you join, your training will be all about self-development, we will help develop your team building skills, decision making and leadership skills that could be used in your civilian career.
